# How to Remove a Portco Contact

## This article explains how to remove a user who is associated with a portfolio company (Portco).

Follow the steps in order: if you delete the contact first, any data collection workflows they're assigned to can be left without an owner.

 Before you start

- Know which asset (portfolio company) the contact belongs to
- Confirm who will take over as Responsibility on any data collection workflows the contact is assigned to
    - **Data Collection User**
    - **Portco Portal Access**

 Steps

### Step 1: Check for data collection workflows

**If you’re a Super Admin:**

1. Go to the **Control Center**
2. Search for the relevant asset and open its data collection workflows
3. Check whether the contact is listed as the **Responsibility** on any workflow. Portco users aren't set as Approvers, so you only need to check Responsibility
4. If they are, assign another user as Responsibility before continuing
5. Select **Funds/Assets**
6. Search for your asset
7. Select **Data Collection**, then **Data Collection Setup**
8. Select **Create Workflow** and choose whether it derives from a Parent workflow (with a standardized setup) or is a custom data collection workflow specific to the asset
9. Open the **Portco Users** tab
10. Search for the person you're removing
11. Switch off both toggles:
12. Click the blue hyperlink on the contact's email address
13. Select **Delete Contact**

#### If you're not a Super Admin:

From the asset page you can also change the Responsibility/Approver on a workflow and choose whether to keep the workflow active

**Important:** Don't skip this step. Removing a contact who is still assigned to a workflow can leave submissions with no one responsible for them.

### Step 2: Turn off the contact's access in the Portco Users tab

### Step 3: Delete the contact
